Reason for flight: He traced the numbers which plagued him so to Australia, where he met the wife of a man, Sam Toomey, who also felt plagued by them.
Residence prior to flight: LA
What we know: Hurley was institutionalised by his mother after an accident which Hurley held himself responsible for, an accident in which two people died. He stopped everything but eating after this accident and therefore was enrolled into the Santa Rosa Mental Institute, where he met Dave. We know now that Dave was imaginary. Also, here Hurley met Leonard, who provided him with the numbers.
Hurley then got a job at Mr. Clucks Chicken, and played some Lottery with the numbers. Hurley won $114 million, which increased to $155 million at the time of the crash.
Hurley owned a box company, amonst others, where both his old boss, Randy, and Locke worked previous to the crash.
